Welcome to Foresters Lodge

Foresters LodgeForesters LodgeForesters Lodge is located in a sheltered inlet just a short distance away from romantic and historic Loch Shiel overlooking the Polloch river which meanders through the glen from Loch Doilet. The lodge is situated in the grounds of our croft which was also formerly a forester’s bothy and game keeper’s croft house. The lodge has uninterrupted views south to Beinn Resipol, east to Glenhurich Forest and north and west to the mountains.

We are delighted to be able to offer a unique, luxury self-catering lodge in one of the most spectacular and unspoilt remote areas on the west coast of Scotland, with sauna and spa bath

...perfect for anytime of year.

Foresters lodge is ideally located to take full advantage of various activities in the immediate vicinity including walking, kayaking and fishing on Loch Shiel and Loch Doilet. The area of Glenhurich offers cycling on some of the best undiscovered forestry tracks in the Highlands including the route alongside Loch Shiel to Glenfinnan. This route should definitely be on every cyclists tick list.

We have mountain bikes available for lodge guests to hire please see our rates page for prices. Take a bike and cycle the epic Loch Shiel route to Glenfinnan and visit the station museum. Grab a bite to eat in the 1950s dining carriage and cycle to the viaduct to spot the Hogwarts Express (from the Harry Potter films) pass over this magnificent structure.

The nearest village is Strontian, 8 miles away, which is known for its mining of the mineral Strontium named after the village. Strontian has amenities including hotels with bar / restaurants open to non-residents, cafes, shops, post office, tearooms, petrol station, craft shops and tourist information.

Visitor Comments

It's a different world out here, it's not every day you get your road to your accommodation blocked by Highland cattle.
The lodge is a Haven so peaceful and pure escapism. Very well done out with everything you need and more.
A great place to come and de-stress.

Thank you Mark and Amy.

We've had a lovely week here, first 4 days super hot and sunny & last few were big rain showers with some sunny bits between, (more what we're used to).
We've been out all day everyday exploring & walking, visiting smokehouse, castle, lighthouse, watching Minke Whales for hours, Glenfinnan, Glenuig Beach, Kendra Bay, and yesterday we spent the day at Ariundle Centre with Kate Campbell having a spinning wool processing class something we've wanted to get started on for ages... So, the rain on the last day& Kate's class were good timing!)
We've enjoyed this Lodge very very much. So comfortable, well cared for, beautiful area.
Thank you, Mark and Amy we will hopefully return, and meanwhile we'll recommend your place at every opportunity!
Best wishes,
Jennifer & Michael, Camphill, Aberdeen.

So excited to get some photographs of the 'Resident' pine Marten had almost given up hope then he appeared at 5.30pm on our second to last night.
Loved our hideaway in the valley of Polloch. Visited Mallaig the scenery on our journey was wonderful, the white sands of Morar outstanding.
Had a day trip to Mull to Tobermory lovely fishing village.
But my highlight was standing on the hill photographing the Harry Potter train as it crossed the viaduct at Glenfinnan.
Thank Mark and Amy for allowing us to stay in your lodge, we've had an amazing time, all our good wishes for your future plans.

Saw pine Marten twice

Arrival & walk up to peninsula of Loch Shiel, stunning views & weather dinner on balcony to the sound of birds, the river & the breeze in the trees, bliss, Sauna Jacuzzi work forgotten 100% relaxed with in a few hours of being here. 20th - leisurely breakfast, weather even better than yesterday, we hired bikes from Mark. And Rosie Nicole & I set off exploring Loch Doilet, I fell off which caused much amusement.
Drove to Strontian for supplies, the shop sells everything!
21st- the weather remained warm but cloudy and rainy, leaving dramatic scenes & giving us the excuse to spend the day reading, relaxing and eating, Rosie was tired after her biking yesterday too.
Work is a distant memory.
22nd sad to leave for the next leg of our holiday, hope to go via Glenfinnan.
To Amy, Mark & Alfie, thank you for making us so welcome & for an amazing start to our holiday.

Fantastic holiday! Wonderful Lodge! Tremendous views & location!  We loved everything about the beautifully furnished lodge from the very relaxing Sauna to the thoughtfully chosen books. Mark and Amy gave us loads of great ideas for days out & some really interesting knowledge about the area. We really appreciated the warm & friendly welcome for us & our dog, the brilliant weather & the local area was superb for walks & wildlife. Couldn't have asked for more.
Thank you very very much!

Had a brilliant week. Weather amazing sat out on the balcony every day. Watching the birds on the feeder, also visit from pine marten. Lodge had everything we needed and more, took full advantage of the Sauna & spa bath! Mark and Amy have been great sorting out bike hire and fishing on Loch Doilet. Lovely cycle ride along Loch Shiel. Drive up to Malliag for a pint of prawns was a must. Fishing on the loch was very good with a couple of wee brownies. Just sad to leave. Thank you xx

Thank you for equipping the lodge to such a high standard.
We've had several great walks along Loch Shiel & Doilet and explored some remote forest tracks as well.
A wonderful resource for nature watching, rest and recuperation.
The tea room with WiFi at Acharacle is very friendly & the tea, coffee and cakes are great!
We'll be recommending the lodge to family and friends.
Lynne and David, Edinburgh.

We came here at a week's notice to get away from it all.
And we were blown away. The views are simply breathtaking.
The owners Mark and Amy are fantastic hosts and have thought of everything... Without doubt the most enjoyable and relaxing break we have had. The west coast lighthouse is a must, as is the distillery. ☺️(we'll be back)

Two major activities included walking around Loch Doilet (it was lovely) and cycling Loch Shiel. We ended up having a late lunch in the hotel in Glenfinnan which was delicious!
Although the road was incredibly bumpy, the views were worth the pain!
We were rained on one day but enjoyed the selection of books and films and views from the windows.
We saw an abundance of birds (and if I knew anything about birds I'd tell their names.
We also saw a pine marten when we went to get eggs from forestry house(good eggs they were)
Thank you for a wonderful few days in a lovely part of the country.
